Victoria Sickness i Candela Casas IN RESiDENCE at the School La Bastida
Victoria Sickness
Circus artist, performer and educator based in Barcelona. Trained in Audiovisual Systems Engineering and later in Circus Arts at the Rogelio Rivel Centre for Circus Arts, she develops a practice that spans contemporary circus, performance, music and artistic research. Her work focuses on the body as a space of transformation and on the relationship between risk, memory and identity. Through disciplines such as Cyr wheel, acrobatics and performance, she explores new forms of stage language that engage with audiences and challenge conventions surrounding the body, gender and public space.
In 2022, she premiered Circografía d'una travesti, a contemporary circus piece that has toured various festivals and venues in Spain and Germany. She is currently developing a new creation project focused on travesti genealogies in the performing arts. Alongside her artistic practice, she has worked for several years as a circus educator with children, young people and adults. She sees pedagogy as a space for collective research, where movement, play and cooperation become tools for thinking and imagining together.
Candela Casas
Born in Castellar del Vallès in 1997, she trained at the Rogelio Rivel Circus School, where she developed a grounding in circus techniques and explored creative methodologies and innovative forms of expression. She complemented her training with studies in sports coaching and socio-sports activities at Institut Nàutic de Barcelona, gaining tools to connect the artistic and educational fields.
She is a circus artist and co-founder of Kolektivo Konika, whose productions include La punta del meu nas and Matrimoni, and of Improportes, a research project focused on acrobatic balances and stage improvisation. As an acrobat, she has performed in productions by companies including Voël (Boira), Capicua (Nühsu), La FAM (Ambulant) and duKto (A Rienda Suelta), as well as collaborating with Nilak, a travelling circus and theatre project.
