Maria Arnal IN RESiDENCE at the School Milà i Fontanalshttps://maimb.cat/
Trained in the fields of translation, anthropology and song, Arnal focuses her musical and vocal work on field recordings from digital libraries. In 2013, she joined the group Compartir Dóna Gustet, which investigates and disseminates the connections between the music of oral tradition and Internet. Her main project, which she develops in cooperation with Marcel Bagés, brings together all the concerns of her previous initiatives. With Bagés, she self-released the EPs EP Remescles, acoples i melismes (2015) and Verbena (2016) and her first full album, 45 cerebros y 1 corazón (Fina Estampa, 2017). She also lends her voice to other projects in which music is considered a common good or is linked to the oral memory, the experimental tradition, improvisation, etc. These include, for example, the project Tornar al lloc (Returning to the Place), investigating family archives in the Barceloneta neighbourhood, in cooperation with the Malpelo contemporary dance company. With Niño de Elche, she also performs in the latest film by Jo Sol and Afra Rigamonti, Taxista Ful 2 (Vivir y otras ficciones).

El Milà i Fontanals is participating for the fifth time at RESIDENCIAL, and does so with a group of students of 4th of ESO.
The Institut Milà i Fontanals (Raval, Ciutat Vella) began as the Institut Escola Pi i Margall, founded in 1933 during the Second Republic. In the 1961-1962 academic year, it moved to its current home, a building newly designed specifically as a secondary school. The Institut Milà i Fontanals provides an education to culturally very diverse pupils (from more than 80 different countries) with very different levels of learning and from very different social and financial backgrounds. The school has designed strategies to address this diversity by using the centre’s resources (small groups, reception classes, streaming, remedial lessons, etc.) and by creating links with its surroundings.
