Itxaso Corral and Lara Brown IN RESiDENCE at the School Escola Turó de Roquetes

Presences and beyond.

Hamlet's famous monologue has always been translated in Spanish as “ser o no ser”, but in English to be can refer to “ser” and “estar”, so we could give it a twist and change it to “estar o no estar”. Are we or are we not, where are we, how are we, how are we being together, in how many times and spaces are we, how many dimensions are we made up of, how many bodies are in us, how many presences inhabit us, how far are our bodies, how far does our being alive expand? We will explore this presence, so mysterious, so essential when it comes to thinking and practising the performing arts. We will get into the mass of space and time, to change atmospheres, create improbable situations, incorporate characters, create fictions that suggest other realities, other states of being.

This all sounds a bit vague and it is because we are in the phase of making a wish. We have to go to the Institut Escola Turó de Roquetes, meet with those of us who are there, be together and provoke and train different bodily and sonorous presences to create living and fluid spaces. To be is not an easy thing, it is multiple, changing and on the move, but much more difficult today, with our digital, immediate lives, packed in clips. It is this exuberant complexity that we will explore through words, body, writing and dance. A celebration of the simultaneity of the micro and the macro, of how the living arts, the performing arts, transform and complicate the notion of present time, of being alive.
