Domènec IN RESiDENCE at the School La Bastida

Santa Coloma de Gramenet is a large city of more than 100,000 inhabitants, surrounded by other large cities (Badalona, Sant Adrià and Barcelona) and forming part of the metropolitan area that houses around 5,000,000 people in a relatively small territory. However, 10 centuries ago, Santa Coloma was a small group of manor houses and a hermitage, near a river and the hills of the Marina mountain range, surrounded by fields and wetlands, where only about 145 people lived.

Do we know our urban environment? The city, the street, the neighbourhood and the school where we live, study and work?

Do we know our natural environment? The Marina mountain range, the river Besós?

Do we know their history and the evolution of these places?

The Institut la Bastida is in an exceptional location to observe and understand the morphology of this city, right on the edge of the urbanised areas and in contact with the natural environment.

We therefore propose that we all try to get to know our environment better, its past and present, to experience it and rethink it.

From this exploration, from the questions, discoveries and proposals that emerge from the process, we will plan and complete a shared project.
