A constant theme in the work of Montserrat Soto, an artist born in Barcelona in 1961, is the meditation on art and the space. Soto conceives the space as a place of experience and transit in which memory faces the dynamic nature of reality. She is interested, particularly, in observing and analysing changes that take place in the urban landscape and how these transformations influence the affective life of citizens. Her most habitual means of expression are photography and video, and she has also worked on many occasions in the field of audiovisual installation and set design.

Her most important solo exhibitions include Lloc de silencis, Centre d’Art Santa Mònica (Barcelona, 2007), Arxius d’arxius, Centre d’Art la Panera (Lleida, 2006), Tracking Madrid, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid, 2005), Paisajes secretos, Fundación Telefónica (Madrid, 2004), Salidas y límites, Galería OMR (Mexico DF, 2004), Basilea 2000, Project Room (Basle, 2000), Tanques, Galeria Estrany de la Mota (Barcelona, 1997), Sin nombre, Sala Montcada, La Caixa, (Barcelona, 1996), and Pasos, Espai 13 at the Joan Miró Foundation (Barcelona, 1993).
