Víctor Jaenada IN RESiDENCE at the School Pompeu Fabra

Víctor Jaenada (Barcelona, 1977)
A Barcelona-based artist who grew up on the outskirts of the city. In 1994, he enrolled at the Llotja School in Barcelona, where he received five years of traditional training. To further his education, he enrolled at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Barcelona in 2001, where he delved deeper into his studies of painting and drawing and experimented with other media. In his fourth year, he was awarded a scholarship to the University of Granada.
After university, he transformed an abandoned building in Esplugues de Llobregat into his home-studio; he lived in this space for five years and created his first wall installations. In 2013, he branched out into multidisciplinary projects at the Hangar production centre, and in 2016, began working in a studio in Barcelona, inside the Galería Balaguer, where he unveiled his organic installations. In 2019, he moved to his current studio in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, where he also lived between 2017 and 2022. Currently, he lives in Piera with his family, where he has another studio in addition to the one in L'Hospitalet.
He has exhibited his work in art centres such as the MNAC, the CCEMx in Mexico City, the Antoni Tàpies Foundation and the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona. In 2024, he expanded his practice by taking on the role of artistic director of the Manifesta festival in L'Hospitalet. He also regularly participates in individual and collective projects in various galleries, alternative spaces, institutions and art fairs.

School Pompeu Fabra
agora.xtec.cat/iespompeufabra-bdnInstitut Pompeu Fabra (Bufalà, Badalona) is a first-time participant in EN RESiDÈNCiA. The current school dates back to 1915, when the local council created the Municipal School of Arts and Crafts, based on the school run by the La Bienhechora cooperative of the Badalona Workers' Association. Over the course of its history and after several name changes, the school became known as the Institut Pompeu Fabra in 1990, following the Education Act (LEC). The name of the school is a tribute to Professor Fabra, the first director of the Municipal School of Arts and Crafts and also the driving force behind the creation of the Catalan School of Badalona. While living in the city, Pompeu Fabra compiled the General Dictionary of the Catalan Language.
