Núria Rion (La Canonja, 1976)

Núria Rion lives and works in Sarral (Conca de Barberà), where she combines her artistic practice with teaching.

She holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona. She continued her training at Leeds Metropolitan University (United Kingdom), where she specialised in printmaking and printing techniques, as well as at BilbaoArte, in the workshops at Fundació Miró Mallorca and at the printmaking workshop of Escola d'Art i Disseny de Tarragona, where she currently teaches. She has recently been selected for an artistic residency at KHMessen (Norway).

Her awards and grants include the 10th Salou Prize for Pictorial Research (2018), the Carles Mani Prize/Grant from Tarragona City Council, presented as part of SCAN 2012, and a training grant from Fundació Miró Mallorca. She has taken part in festivals such as Terra de Llorers, Art&Gavarres, Errant and Embarrat, and exhibited her work at venues including Can Framis, Museu d'Art Modern de Tarragona, Torre Vella de Salou, L&B Gallery in Barcelona, ARBAR, FAD, Centre d'Art Tecla Sala, Centre de Lectura de Reus and Can Felipa, among others.

Her artistic practice explores the relationships between landscape, memory and materiality, approaching territory as a living space where natural, cultural and human processes converge. Walking, observing and collecting are the starting points for a research process that transforms plant remains, earth, pigments, traces, maps and found materials into visual works that act as sensitive archives of place.

Her work develops through a slow engagement with the landscape, attentive both to what is visible and to the traces, absences and everyday gestures that shape the memory of territories. Through painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and installation, she develops open-ended processes in which matter retains the memory of its transformation and becomes a vehicle for reflecting on time, belonging and the relationship between people and their surroundings.

Her work champions artistic practice as a form of listening and a way of activating both tangible and intangible heritage, proposing new ways of reading and inhabiting the landscape from a contemporary perspective.
