Mònica Planes (Barcelona, 1992) holds a BA in Fine Art, awarded by the Universitat de Barcelona (2009-2014) and took the MA course in Artistic Production and Research (2014-2016) at the same university. Her work has been shown at Nivell Zero (run by the Fundació Suñol), where she presented her project ACTE38: Nivell Zero, completed with the help of the 2016 Han Nefkens - UB Postgraduates Grant. She also showed her project L’objectualització del paisatge at the àngels barcelona gallery during Art Nou 2017. In recent years, she has been awarded the 2016 Fundació Felícia Fuster Grant for Sculpture, the 2016-2017 Fundació Guasch Coranty Grant for Artistic Creation and the 2017 SAC-FIC Residency Programme Grant.

This year, she was shortlisted for the 2018 Art Jove Prize for Research, awarded by the Sala d’Art Jove, and she participated in the 2018 Biennal d’Art Ciutat d’Amposta. She has been awarded the Can Felipa residency for the performing arts and is currently developing a project with Alejandro Palacín that they will present in September at the Fundació Arranz-Bravo.

It has taken part in two editions of IN RESiDENCE with Laia Estruch (eighth edition, 2016-2017) and with Mariona Moncunill (ninth edition, 2017-2018). On this third occasion, it is participating in the programme with a group of pupils in the fourth year of compulsory secondary education.

The Institut Juan Manuel Zafra (Camp de l’Arpa del Clot, Sant Martí) was founded in 1892 as an arts and crafts school. It is now a publicly-run school that offers compulsory and sixth-form secondary education to pupils in the El Clot catchment area and which supports the inclusion of contemporary creation in the classroom.
