Marta Pareja Cobos IN RESiDENCE at the School Nou Barris
Marta Pareja Cobos (Barcelona, 1985)
Her professional practice is shaped by three equidistant, mutually reinforcing areas: artistic creation, teaching and art mediation. After graduating in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona (UB), she completed a Master's degree in Comparative Studies in Art, Literature and Thought at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), as well as a degree in Photography from the Institut d’Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya (IEFC).
She subsequently moved to France as part of a residency at the École Supérieure de la Photographie in Arles, a turning point in her artistic practice. From then on, she began exploring the shifting territory between photography, writing, video and drawing in order to examine silence as a tool of subjugation and a source of anguish.
Her work has been exhibited in France, Germany, Spain and Portugal, in contexts including F/stop Festival in Leipzig, Encontros da Imagem in Braga, Bfoto Festival in Barbastro, the Ateliers d’artiste de Belleville in Paris and Sala Zero at Roca Umbert in Granollers, among others. In 2018, she won the 15th Can Basté Photography Forum with her project Estudio sobre la monarquía, which was also selected for Festival Fotonoviembre 2021 and the Temporals 23' programme. In 2021, Fundació Sabadell acquired her work Espectros, which had won the Art Emergent Sabadell award.
Alongside her artistic practice, she has maintained ongoing collaborations with educational institutions and organisations such as the Open University of Catalonia (UOC), CaixaForum Barcelona, Museu Picasso in Barcelona, ELISAVA, the Art i Escola programme (AC Granollers), photography school FUGA, Fundació Suñol and the University of Barcelona, where she currently teaches and conducts doctoral research.
Her projects have received the Department of Culture of the Government of Catalonia's Research and Innovation Grant in the Visual Arts category on two occasions. She has also undertaken residencies at Roca Umbert and Fabra i Coats creative factories.

Since its inauguration until 2021, this school was named Institut Sant Andreu. It participated in the third edition of EN RESiDÈNCiA (2011-2012), with the artist Tom Carr, with the mediation of A Bao A Qu under this name.
Now, we know it as Nou Barris (La Prosperitat, Nou Barris) was born out of the long and continuous neighbourhood demands of the 70s of the twentieth century. Although classes began in the 1976-77 school year in temporary huts erected by hand, the school building was not completed until the 1983-84 school year.
