Maria Giró Coll IN RESiDENCE at the School Màrius Torres
Maria Giró Coll
Maria Giró Coll was born in Castellbò (Alt Urgell) in 1995. An artist and cultural manager, she has been based in the Pyrenees since 2019, using the region as a field of action and research through art and rural activism through culture.
She is a founding member of Associació Cultural Tartera (La Seu d’Urgell), a space for the creation and production of graphic arts. Since 2021, she has developed her creative projects there while also working to foster cultural activity in the region in collaboration with other Pyrenean organisations and cultural stakeholders. At Taller Tartera, together with Sara Cabo and Lourdes Casanova, she carries out mediation projects with schools and leisure organisations, leads workshops and training courses in graphic and plastic arts techniques, and undertakes design and screen-printing commissions.
Her artistic practice is closely connected to the context in which it takes place. She develops situated research and seeks to offer transformative perspectives on the world around us. Her work has been exhibited at Sala d’Art Jove (Barcelona), Sala Gòtika (Lleida) and Sala la Cuina (La Seu d’Urgell), among other venues. She has also taken part in various ephemeral installation festivals, and her graphic work, created at Taller Tartera, can be found at the workshop.
As a cultural manager, she has been involved in various initiatives and organisations linked to rural areas, working to strengthen and bring together the region’s community networks. She has worked at Traça Cultural, the network of cultural organisations in the Pyrenees. She is currently part of the organising team of the Els 7 Inferns Jazz and Folk Festival (Alt Urgell) and coordinates the Entorns artist residency (Cerdanya).
