Jordi Oriol i Indigest IN RESiDENCE at the School Joan d’Àustria

THE ELEMENTS INVOLVED IN A THEATRE PRODUCTION

With the project now underway, the members of Indi Gest show the pupils the different elements involved in staging a theatre production and which largely determine the final result: sound equipment (handled, particularly, by Carles Pedragosa), costumes and lighting (managed by Silvia Delagneau) and audiovisual elements (of which Marc Permanyer is in charge).

The pupils begin to take part in practical exercises based on situations proposed by Indi Gest members. At times, this work involves reworking scenes from plays by Shakespeare. For example, the group rewrote several scenes in the style of the language used by young people on their mobile phones (whatsapps, SMS, tweets, etc.).

PRESENTATION AT THE SANT MARTÍ AUDITORIUM

The Sant Martí Auditorium was inaugurated after works in the 2014-2015 season. This was previously the theatre used by two nearby schools (Joan d'Àustria and L'Infanta Isabel d'Aragó) but reopened as a neighbourhood facility managed by the Sant Martí community centre. Those involved were quick to realise that the presentation of IN RESIDENCE could provide an excellent opportunity to enable local residents to discover the new venue.

Over the final month, Indi Gest and the pupils rehearsed at the auditorium, which the community centre allowed them to use free of charge on all rehearsal days necessary. Accordingly, during the first three weeks of May, rehearsals took place during the normal times of the IN RESIDENCE project sessions (Tuesdays from 12.30 to 2.30 pm), whilst the during the last week rehearsals intensified to more than five hours per day. Despite initial misgivings, all the pupils came to rehearsals and enthusiastically through themselves into fulfilling what they had all agreed to do.

Finally, on Thursday, May 28, the presentation took place, with the pupils performing as actors and reciting from Shakespeare's works to a packed auditorium where the audience included members of the pupils' families, friends and teachers.
