Jordi Ferreiro IN RESiDENCE at the School Jaume Balmes

http://jordiferreiro.info/

Jordi Ferreiro (Barcelona, 1982) is an artist and educator. His work explores the concept of institutional mediation and how art can be a way to intervene and change the bureaucratic places responsible for administrating knowledge, constructing what we understand by culture and regulating our way of understanding the world.

Based on his interest in experimental teaching methods and site-specific (in situ) work, Ferreiro uses installations, performances and formats that are perceived as being educational (guided visits, audio-guides, etc.) in order to create “states of emergency” within cultural institutions, with the aim of experiencing new infrastructures and models of governance.

Under these premises, Ferreiro has carried out projects in the following international institutions: Z33 (Belgium), Galeria Zacheta (Poland), Museo del Oro (Bogotá), Lugar a Dudas (Cali), Academia Valand (Gothenburg), Museo Cerrillos (Chile), Gaîté Lyrique (France) and TEOR / ética (Costa Rica). He has also worked in a number of Spanish institutions, including the MACBA, the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, Matadero, La Casa Encendida, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and the Centre d’Art Fabra i Coats, among others.
