Joana Capella IN RESiDENCE at the School La Ferreria
Joana Capella Buendia
Joana Capella Buendia lives in Mollet del Vallès and works in Barcelona and the surrounding area. She holds a degree in Multidisciplinary Integration Design from ESDi Sabadell School of Design (Ramon Llull University) and a Master's degree in Design Research and Experimentation from BAU (affiliated with the University of Vic).
Her practice spans visual arts, performance and installation. Working with dance, sound creation, text and sculpture, her projects often emerge as tactics for questioning the conditions of the specific context of contemporary artistic creation, as well as the affects and effects of today's productivist paradigm on human and non-human bodies.
This year, she was selected for the 2026 edition of the Temporals programme's open call in the individual project category, with a research project exploring the concepts of performance and resistance as understood in the fields of fitness and agriculture.
More recently, she has been part of the team of educadoris (educators) for IntersECCions (Visual Arts) in El Prat de Llobregat and the Art i Escola programme (ACVic and Granollers).
She has developed her practice through residencies at La Escocesa (2020–2025), Fabra i Coats (2024), Sant Andreu Contemporani (2023), Centre ARBAR (2023), Centro de Arte Huarte (2021) and Casa Tres Patios (Medellín, 2019). Her work has received support through the Barcelona CREA Creation Grants (2023) and research grants from OSIC (2022), Idensitat (2022), Homesession (2021), La Escocesa (2021), Centre d'Art La Panera (2019) and Sala d'Art Jove (2017).
Her work has been exhibited at Museu del Monestir de Sant Cugat, Centre d'Art Contemporani Fabra i Coats, La Capella, CCEBA Buenos Aires, Centre d'Art Maristany, LOOP Festival, Facultat de Belles Arts de Cuenca, Museu Abelló, Escola Massana, La Panera and Sala d'Art Jove, among other venues.

This school dates back to 1962, when severe flooding on 25 September devastated much of the Vallès Occidental region. After twenty years of continuous service, it moved from Carrer Progrés to the Ferreria industrial estate at the start of the 1995–1996 academic year. In 2002, the school, which until then had been called “IES 25 de Setembre”, adopted the name “Institut La Ferreria”, in line with the metalworking practice common among the residents of Montcada i Reixac.
