Jeleton IN RESiDENCE at the School Josep Comas i Solà

GELEN AND YOSJUAN. INTRODUCTION

Gelen talks about feminist fanzines (she has an archive on them, and they form the core of the research she is about to culminate when she reads her doctoral thesis). She shows the fanzines produced by a group she was once a member of and coordinated, based on drawing the body as the medium for the text: these are drawings of people with posters about the disappearances of Ayotzinapa, “Lxs anormales con lxs normalistas” [The normal ones with the normalists].
Yosjuan presents his experiences of workshops focused on drawing, sociology and education.
The pupils introduce themselves briefly, and ask questions. The situation changes when we start talking about music.
We watch the day's episode of Ciutat morta.

TATTOOS AND SCRATCHING

We form two groups, each placed in a different space.
In one group, we work on applying a small drawing onto the body (as a kind of icon or personal symbol) using pen and India ink to create temporary tattoos.
The other group uses a new tool, a record player, to create a sound collage using scratching.

TODAY WE CHOOSE. A TASTE

We make our first contact with the materials: we hand out calligraphic pens and A3 paper for ink. We start to draw penstrokes, writing and deciding what kind of strokes we are most comfortable with, what kind of stroke emerges from the pen and how to find one that is comfortable both for ourselves and the pen. Then we make a quick drawing of something we find a little difficult, then the same drawing again, taking measurements.

THE ACCENT. THE LAW. THE PERSONAL IMAGE

Occupying a common place that has to do with art and one's own biography as a political space.

CLARIFICATION. STRUCTURE

JELETON: “TIGER LILIES”

We have not done anything yet so many things have happened... I tried to explain that we want to do a project on drawing and performance art about our youth (at the age of fifteen years), that we still do not have a clear idea about it, and we suggest that they do the same, an art project about their youth. The starting points was that all of them used artistic techniques such as drawing, writing, singing, dancing, taking photos, makeup and others. I asked each one what they liked doing among these things, if they would like to give a demonstration to the group and under what conditions, what they would need. I talked a lot, too much, to avoid the unease that silence causes, and at times we talked all at once, which is very pleasant but can be a little frightening, because it makes you think that the class is no longer there. Meanwhile, a lot of things happened: we introduced ourselves and we defined ourselves in very surprising ways.
