Gessamí Olesa (Alcanar, 1992)

Gessamí Olesa is a visual artist. Her artistic research focuses on the bodily, territorial and spatial apparatuses through which identities, imaginaries and narratives of belonging are produced. Her work takes shape through hybrid practices that move between installation, performance, audiovisual work and archival research, establishing an ongoing dialogue between body, memory and territory.

In her research, materials such as earth, mesh fabric, ash and textiles become active elements that drive processes of transformation and displacement of matter. Olesa pays particular attention to what is inherited -materials, narratives, gestures and ways of inhabiting a place- and to how these legacies shape ways of seeing, inhabiting and narrating a territory. In her recent projects, territory emerges as a fragmented body, passed down through generations and subjected to various forms of legal, economic and symbolic pressure. In this respect, the Terres de l’Ebre have become a central space for her work and thinking, from which she questions the narratives that have shaped their images and forms of representation. She understands art as a space of friction from which to challenge dominant narratives and activate other forms of presence, connection and transmission.

She holds a degree in Philosophy from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and an Advanced Vocational Diploma in Applied Arts to Walls from the Escola d’Art i Disseny d’Amposta. She also holds an inter-university Master's degree in Contemporary Thought from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and the University of Girona (UdG).

Alongside her artistic practice, she curates various projects and public programmes and works in cultural management. In recent years, she has collaborated with several cultural and artistic institutions. She is currently the coordinator of art mediation projects at Centre d’Art Lo Pati in Amposta and a member of the education team at EART (Experimentem amb l’Art) at Centre d’Art Tecla Sala in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat.

Recent exhibitions include a presentation at Convent de Sant Agustí (Barcelona), supported by the TàNDEM grant from CASA R.A.R.O; a group exhibition, Sense Comissariat, at Centre d’Art Lo Pati; and an exhibition at Espai Àngels 2 with Fundació Úniques, as part of Festival Art Nou. She has also been selected to take part in Festival Efímera at CACiS El Forn de la Calç and in Club 9's ESTÀRTER artist support programme (2026).
