Fito Conesa IN RESiDENCE at the School Narcís Monturiol

Music: a shared intimate space

Music is unquestionably a shared intimate space. We use it to navigate intense emotions and moments, both to dilute and amplify what we feel. When we go to a concert, we get carried away and sing along to songs that, until then, had been confined to that space in our minds created between us and our headphones turned up to full volume.

We sing, we speak gibberish in other languages, and we repeat melodies ad nauseam. These melodies transport us to a memory, a moment, and put us in a specific state of mind. The voice takes centre stage in this context, as it is the main instrument of this emotional springboard.

Conesa's idea stems from this shared, everyday musical universe, which is to build a temporary space where people can sing collectively created pieces without needing to be singers. This exercise transcends simple karaoke to become a universal language that connects us with our most intimate and emotional selves through the group.

After all, sometimes words are not necessary to understand that a song is about a break-up. Likewise, it is not always necessary to mention happiness to feel it fully.
