Daniela De Vecchi

Daniela De Vecchi is a director, playwright, researcher and teacher. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Catalan Language, Literature and Theatre Studies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), where she is conducting research entitled The Poetics of Repetitive Minimalist Systems: Towards a Pre-Dramatic Theatre. She holds a Master's degree in Theatre Studies from the Institut del Teatre and the UAB, a postgraduate qualification in Film and Society from the University of Barcelona (UB), and a degree in Performing Arts from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), São Paulo.

She is the founder of LAminimAL Teatre, a company with which she has been developing stage-based research since 2012, focusing on contemporary dramaturgy, the relationship between body and word, and the creation of hybrid theatrical devices. As a playwright and director, she has created more than twenty productions, including Passar Revista, El suïcidi de l’Elefant hipotecat and La supervivència de les Luciérnagas. She has also directed works by playwrights such as Albert Pijuan, Aina Tur, David Eudave, José Sanchis Sinisterra, Juan Mayorga, Alvise Camozzi, Care Santos and Mario Benedetti. Her work has been presented at venues and festivals including Festival Grec, FiraTàrrega, Sala Beckett, Teatre Arnau, Teatre Romea, Sala Barts, Sala Apolo, Teatro del Barrio, Frinje Madrid and Festival Santiago Off in Chile.

She is currently developing Vals Núm. 6 as part of an artistic residency at Fabra i Coats – Fàbrica de Creació. This stage-based research explores desire, the construction of identity, and the relationship between the body, exposure and the gaze.

Alongside her artistic practice, she has an extensive teaching career. She has taught courses in acting-based and text-based dramaturgy, as well as stage direction, at the Obrador Internacional de Dramatúrgia at Sala Beckett, the Institut del Teatre, Teatro de Arena in São Paulo, the Instituto Cervantes and other institutions. She has also taken part in educational projects such as Caixa Escena, run by Fundació "la Caixa", Les arts escèniques al servei de l’educació, by Viu el Teatre, and Connexions Batxillerat Artístic, organised by Barcelona City Council.

She founded the research group on Repetitive Minimalist Systems (RMS) at the Obrador Internacional de Dramatúrgia at Sala Beckett, where she has developed her own methodology for collaborative dramaturgical and stage creation. She has shared this approach through seminars and laboratories in Catalonia, Madrid, Chile, Argentina and Brazil. Her career has also been shaped by training in Social Theatre and Theatre of the Oppressed with Augusto Boal, as well as by her work with adolescents and community theatre projects in Brazil.

She is currently Vice-President of the Association of Performing Arts Professionals of Catalonia (AADPC) and is responsible for its Stage Direction department. In this role, she promotes spaces for debate on stage direction, including the First Meeting of Women Directors at the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya (TNC) and the Stage Direction Conferences at Teatre Lliure and Teatre Akadèmia.
