Àngels Margarit

Since the late 1970s, she has worked in dance in a variety of capacities, as a dancer, teacher, choreographer and curator.

After several years with Heura, a pioneering contemporary dance collective, she founded her own company, Àngels Margarit/cia. MUDANCES, in 1985, with the production MUDANCES. She went on to create her own projects, which include more than twenty stage productions, as well as other forms of work such as solos, sites, improvisation, screendance, installations and research across different fields and formats.

From the outset, her work enjoyed considerable international recognition and was co-produced and presented in more than twenty-five countries, at leading festivals and within major programmes around the world.

Since the beginning of her career, Àngels Margarit has developed a highly distinctive creative style, which has made her one of the leading figures in dance in Catalonia since the mid-1980s.

Throughout her career, she has collaborated with numerous artists and, alongside her creative work, has initiated various projects focused on artistic creation, teaching, transmission and the dissemination of dance.

She has received numerous prestigious national and international awards and distinctions.

As a teacher, she has helped train new generations of dancers and has regularly led courses, workshops and repertoire sessions at schools and training programmes in Catalonia and across Europe. She has also developed and collaborated on various educational programmes for different institutions.

From March 2017 until 2025, she was director of Mercat de les Flors, Barcelona’s dance centre, temporarily putting her own creative work on hold.

She is now gradually returning to work with the body, teaching and artistic creation. She has begun working with her creative and research archive, revisiting and reworking some of her ongoing projects and sharing them with others.
