Aimar Pérez Galí IN RESiDENCE at the School Menéndez y Pelayo

SESSIONS WITH AIMAR PÉREZ GALÍ

Aimar's work entailed providing the young people with strategies and tools so that they could decide for themselves how they wanted to move and how they wanted to dance.
Although warming up before dancing is usually a very practical activity, Aimar decided to turn it into a time for decompression and concentration by providing the pupils with isolation headphones purchased specifically for the residency. In good weather, the activity took place on the school roof.
Working with concepts like running, walking and stopping, the young people began to create their first choreographies. Learning new skills, they gradually acquired greater agility as dancers and improved stage presence. They worked on skills like flocking, freezing, the cell or mirror, other forms like the triangle or the square, peripheral view, ping-pong...

SESSION WITH ZA!

Za! is a musical duo that regularly works with Pérez Galí. At this session, we watched one of their videos: Una orquestra transoceànica i primitivament futurística composta per dues persones: Spazzfrica Ehd i Papa duPau. Next, we played a game of “dynamic speculation” in groups, trying to establish a dialogue between a journalist and a choreographer, who explained and described the story behind the performance.

Another task that we did with Za! involved an introduction to soundpainting, creating performances in groups.

YOGA SESSION WITH ÈLIDA DORTA

After a long explanation about the origins of yoga in which the young people were asked what they already knew about it, they were able to discover what they knew through their own bodies. In the music room, they also did a short session of whole body listening and awareness.

SESSION WITH “THE COUNT OF TORREFIEL”

In April we had the pleasure of attending a narrative and theatre workshop given by the duo Pablo and Tània (aka El Conde de Torrefiel), regular collaborators with Aimar Pérez Galí.
The pair gave us lots of ideas of ways to express our thoughts and feelings on stage.

SESSIONS WITH MAR MEDINA

PARALLEL ACTIVITIES TO THE RESIDENCY

Centre Cívic Casa Sagnier community centre
Although the classrooms at the school are very large, looking for a space more suited to contemporary dance seemed like an attractive idea. The Centre Cívic Casa Sagnier, the nearest community centre to the school, was interested in accommodating us from the start. As a result, whenever, during the residency, we needed a more suitable floor and greater concentration, we asked, in advance, for a room at the centre. This enables the school and the community centre to get to know each other at first-hand and for them to establish closer links with young people in the neighbourhood.

El Graner
The young people rehearse at El Graner Art Factory during the technical residency of Aimar Pérez Galí with his show Acumulating [Accumulating], which is presented at the Mercat de les Flors on November 29 and 30 as part of the Salmon Festival, in cooperation with CUBE.

HANGAR
The young people discover the existence of art factories in their city and ask to see another. The next visit  is to Hangar on January 21.

MACBA
Cooperation with the programme Habitació 1418 - El MACBA és viu [Room 1418 - MACBA is alive], which takes place on Saturdays. The programme is open to young people between the ages of fourteen and eighteen years. Two practical sessions are proposed to enable the young people taking part in the two programmes, Habitació 1418 and IN RESIDENCE, to meet and exchange experiences:
- April 11: movement practice with the young people from Habitació 1418 and IN RESIDENCE.
- April 18: El MACBA és viu, when the young people from the two programmes present a public demonstration.
