Marina Rubio (Zaragoza, 1986)

Marina Rubio's work, through sculptural practice, assumes ways of interfering in the reading of material culture, speculating on the origin and form of the things with which we share our daily lives, as well as experimenting with the processes of transformation linked to the material that shapes them, that we inhabit and builds us. Her works are often born from the study of a specific materiality, they move between the residual, as opposed to the constructed. They move through the accidental, the playful or the random, working with conscious processes but usually involving a loss of control over the results.

She has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona. In 2015 she moved to Bilbao to study for a master's degree in Ceramics, Art and Function at the University of the Basque Country. Until 2021 she was a resident artist at the artistic production centre La Escocesa, of the Barcelona City Council, where she actively participated in the association that manages the space.

She has exhibited in different spaces in the territory, Swab, Artnou, Centre d'Art Contemporani Fabra i Coats, El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria, Museu Nacional de la Ceràmica i les Arts Sumptuàries (Valencia), Fundació Vila Casas (Palafrugell), CERCO, Sala Juana Francés (Zaragoza), Institut Aragonès d'Art i Cultura Contemporània Pablo Serrano (Zaragoza), Tangent Projects (Hospitalet), Biscaia Aretoa (Bilbao), Intermediae (Madrid), Biennal de Casablanca, among others. She collaborated on educational projects with the CCCB (Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona), MACBA (Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona), La Escocesa, the Harinera community culture centre (Zaragoza) and other cultural centres and schools. Together with the artist Juan David Galindo Guarín, they form the Marco i Guarín collective, producing large-scale works that move from sculpture to installation, to talk about architectural obsolescence, ruin, archaeology and artifice in relation to the political production of history.

She has been a member of the Santa Mònica art centre team since 2021, as technical director of exhibitions.
