Anna Serrano IN RESiDENCE at the School Montjuïc

Cuando hago este ejercicio me dan ganas de soltarlo todo en este papel

Public presentation: “Cuando hago este ejercicio me dan ganas de soltarlo todo en este papel”
28/5/2019 at 12.30 noon, 5.30 pm and 7 pm.

The public presentation of the collective creation was entitled: “Cuando hago este ejercicio me dan ganas de soltarlo

todo en este papel”. It took place on 28 May 2019, and consisted of 3 performances, each with seating for 60 people. The first performance was at midday: those attending were mainly students and teaching staff from the Institut Montjuïc. Sixty people attended. A second performance was given at 5 pm: it was mainly attended by the Lliure's staff and a few guests invited by Anna Serrano. Thirty-four people attended. A third performance was given at 7 pm: that was mainly attended by the students’ families and 50 people came. At the end of each performance the audience were invited to take the floor. They were able to put questions and comments to the students, who talked about their experiences.

We would like to highlight some of the important ideas the students mentioned:

“Going from distrusting to trusting another person.” It was clear the relationship between the students at the start was always one of distrust. They always thought the others would annoy them. That started to fade away during the process and disappeared entirely on the day of the presentation. At that time the students sought trust from the other so they could present the show together.

“Not being embarrassed.” Another of the most-shared comments was that they had learnt to stop being embarrassed or, in any case, to confront their embarrassment. And that had built up a lot of self-esteem in them and helped them to grow and know themselves better.

“Feeling very much part of the show and really proud of it.” Another of the most notable and commented aspects of the presentation was that the students felt very much part of the show, they were really proud of it and were very keen to perform it in public.

The students were asked at the start of the residence what they thought contemporary theatre was about and what they though In Residence would be. They were asked the same questions at the end of the residence. They wrote down their answers individually on a piece of paper and anonymously. The conclusion of the residence was a reflection around these issues and this journey. Finally, the students wanted what they had written down to go on record.
